This original oil on canvas depicts a family of Laysan Albatross sitting on the coast of Lihue (Kauai). The painting uses heavy impasto to create texture and depth with intentional focus on bright saturated color. Laysan Albatross are incredible birds whose wingspans commonly exceed 6 feet. Their chics are a fluffy feathered grey. They are known as quite the romantic bird due to their complex mating dance and the fact that they mate for life; but beyond this they always return to the same spot when migrating back home.
