Barrels

$720.00

Year: 2025
Medium: Oil on Canvas Size: 24"x30"

Barrels is an experimental painting exploring the movement of water and the way light interacts with it. In works like Kaiholo (2023) and Swell (2025), I have brought elements of the circular, abstracted style from previous collections into natural scenes, and here I continue that approach. This wave depiction is intentionally stylized. It does not show the traditional, crashing energy of water, but rather emphasizes the drawing, almost floating quality of the waves and the light they carry. Through this piece, I aimed to capture the luminosity, and delicate motion of the ocean. I attempted to use the different hues of blue to portray less of a focus on perfect shading, but the light blankets of sunset caught up in the wave. There is an interplay between water and light in a way that feels both abstract and alive; and a little bit of impasto at the crest of the wave was a final touch to bring a little more dimension
