BREATHING GROUNDS is a series of oil paintings that explores the emotional depth of color and the tactile presence of texture. Each piece is built through layers of paint, creating distinct surfaces that shift with light and perspective. The work reflects my fascination with the atmosphere of sunsets — the way color moves across clouds and changes moment by moment. Through texture and tone, this series captures the quiet intensity of those fleeting transitions, offering a reflection of what brings me a sense of calm and joy.
KAIHOLO (“CURRENTS”)
SOLD
I created Kaiholo to be something I love - the painting style I love, and the subject matter I love (the ocean). The style is comparable to post impressionism. I adore Van Gogh’s bold and expressive style - he features very defined lines and implied movement that is not visible to the naked eye. That is exactly the idea that I want to capture, but with colors in their purest form. Van Gogh also uses very vibrant, very strong color palettes in his work to make the images he renders pop. I think I tend to do the same. Not necessarily tracing an image, but taking the concepts and gradually blending the color and tone to imply movement and shadow.

HAWAIIAN SKIES
SOLD
Hawaiian Sky, among with other similar pieces in this portfolio are abstracted, impressionist paintings created and sculpted to their shape with a palette knife. This composition was creating using all of the colors seen in a sunset viewed from the same balcony where this painting is pictured. Connecting to and paying respect and attention to these beautiful moments and forces of nature is something I desperately want to continue moving forward in my practice.

SEABREEZE SONATA
SOLD
Featuring my favorite color palette of 2022, Seabreeze Sonata became a big, messy, wonderful experiment in movement. I created the entire piece using only a palette knife, which pushed me to work more instinctively than I usually do. The paint sits thick on the canvas, dragged and layered in a way that lets the colors blend, scrape, and break apart. Nothing is overly planned—each pass of the knife follows the energy of the moment, building an abstract rhythm that reminded me of shifting tides and gusts of wind. It’s a large piece, and part of the experience is getting up close to see all the ridges, scratches, and unexpected mixes of color that happened along the way.

HEAD IN THE CLOUDS
SOLD
This bold, abstract oil painting bursts with vibrant hues, where thick layers of paint are carved and sculpted with a palette knife. Somehow ‘Head in the Clouds’ makes itself strong, while maintaining a softness. The bold strokes of soft, pastelly pinks and blues clash with the zesty yellows. Dynamic collisions, and textured strokes seem to leap off the canvas towards the viewer. Deep grooves and raised ridges create a tactile, almost sculptural effect, contrasting with the glossy, smooth surfaces of untouched pigment. The colors swirl and blend in passionate, fluid motions, shifting from popping bright tones to cool, calming blues. The intense texture and vivid palette bring the painting to life, inviting the viewer to both see and feel the energy within the canvas.

WET SUNRISE
AVAILABLE
As yet another continuation piece of the series starting with "Head in the Cloud" - This 30"x30" oil painting is an expressive exploration of texture and color, created using a palette knife and pure oil pigments. The thick, impasto application of paint brings a dynamic, tactile quality to the surface, inviting viewers to engage with the piece not only visually but almost physically. Bold strokes and textured peaks of color create a rhythmic interplay between light and shadow, with each layer of paint adding depth and energy to the composition. The colors interact in vibrant, harmonious ways, creating a sense of movement and fluidity that shifts with the viewer’s perspective. This work captures the raw beauty of the material itself, where the act of creation—bold, immediate, and tactile—is as much a part of the painting’s story as the visual experience.
