MY SCULPTURE MEDIUMS

CERAMIC

With over ten years of experience in ceramics, I have developed a strong command of both handbuilding and wheel-throwing techniques. Among the Fine Art mediums I practice, ceramics remains my favorite — a discipline that combines technical precision with tactile expression. I’m continually drawn to the material’s responsiveness and unpredictability, and while it may be the messiest of my pursuits, it is also the most rewarding, offering an endlessly engaging balance between control, experimentation, and creative discovery.

WOOD & METAL

I have extensive experience working with industrial wood tools and machinery, which has enabled me to develop a strong understanding of traditional joinery and carving techniques for creating durable, well-crafted pieces. This hands-on work with wood emphasizes precision and attention to detail, ensuring that each construction is both structurally sound and visually engaging. Additionally, my welding experience in metalwork allows me to incorporate strong, resilient materials alongside wood, expanding the possibilities for combining form and function

MULTI/MIXED MEDIA

Mixed media is an incredibly expressive and versatile art form that allows for dynamic exploration of ideas and materials. In my work, mixed media pieces are often driven by a desire to engage in meaningful commentary and spark conversation around the content. I have experience incorporating a wide range of materials—including papers, tapes, adhesives, metals, plaster, and more—to build layered, textured compositions that invite close observation and interpretation. This approach not only broadens the visual language of my work but also deepens its conceptual impact, blending tactile experimentation with thoughtful narrative.

The Fujimini Keys Project - 2024

This project was an homage to my mother and the creative endeavors of her life. She wrote a children’s book series titled the Fijimini Island Series. Inquire below for more information:

Concept: My Personal Landscape

Landscape is a polysemous word. Working with the multiplicitous definitions of landscape, such as terrain, earth, history, beliefs, values, circumstances and situations, I was able to ideate a sculpture to intersect with this theme. This project is not only an homage, but a reflection on personal landscape and what makes up an individuals reality.

Features

Fujimini Animals: These colorful little animals are creatures taken from the multicultural children’s book series, the Fujimini Island Series, written by Eileen Wacker. The books feature playful penguins, rowdy hamsters, kind dolphins, silly rabbits, patient pandas, samurai turtles, and an adventurous red dragon (my personal favorite). Each story in the series teaches readers a valuable moral lesson. (Check Here)

Additional Figures: Additional characters in the landscape are the surfers, the snowman, the squirrel, and the bird. These figures are more representative of myself, rather than the books. Each figure is included intentionally because of a connection to someone or somewhere influential in my life, or a lesson Ive learned.

Landscape Characteristics: The landscape is an island surrounded by ocean, representative of an individual. It has many unpredictable features, weird edges and drop offs, but it is a personal paradise. Additionally, I was able to use rocks Ive personally collected over travel.

Inspiration: Fujimini Series

Eileen Wacker, as some may have connected, is my mother. When I was growing up she was actively publishing these books and using them to teach my siblings and I valuable life lessons for everyday life. She used these books as a tool to teach us morals, and largely they shape the principles I have today. Be kind, inclusive, try your best, and just do good things.
